1977 VW Rabbit C

The now classic Mk1 Golf/Rabbit arrived in 1974, intended as a replacement for the Beetle. Borrowing some technology from newly-aquired Audi, the Golf was an extremely modern, front wheel drive, front engine hatchback--a huge departure from the outdated Beetle. This fairly early Rabbit (as it was known in the U.S.) exhibits the angular Giugiaro styling, and the early small taillights.
